Project ANDES

Teaching the practical side of human rights and conservation law enforcement

ESPA was invited to deliver human rights in Peru in, an area that has historically suffered high levels of illegal logging and wildlife poaching.

ESPA designed and delivered human rights training to protected area rangers and police in Peru in support of community forestry initiatives and collaboration between communities and law enforcement.

The training was designed to increase understanding of conservation law enforcement in a practical way that is relevant to the daily duties of rangers and wildlife police.

Course attendees reported increased confidence in approaching individuals, conducting interviews, and interacting with vulnerable members of local communities.

The partnership between local people, government agencies, conservation organizations, and civil society is delivering better outcomes for the protected forest, and ESPA is pleased to support the law enforcement component of this initiative.
